Eli, Pagoda, Royal, Margot, Dusty, Richie and even young Dudley…all [y]our favorite characters from The Royal Tenenbaums now in mini-figure form. Almost as awesome as this:
Royal: Can we get somebody over here to kill these mice for us?
Margot: No. They belong to Chas. Or anyway he invented them.
Royal: Get him to stick them in a fucking cage or something.

Every now and then we benefit from seeing reminders that open our eyes to why we’re working so hard. It can be song lyrics, a Pecha Kucha presentation or a badass piece of art. For the professional dreamer in me, it was this line from an inspiring wall sticker, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” So true. Check out more designs at Mm.

I haven’t been to San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival before, but from what I can gather this year’s event in Golden Gate Park is shaping up to be something special. There are a bunch of bands I’d love to see live including The Strokes, My Morning Jacket, Freelance Whales, Phoenix and Empire of the Sun. And as if that isn’t enough to keep occupied, Outside Lands also sports wine tastings, great food from local vendors and outside art installations. Being in SF, you also know organizers will be on top of staying eco-friendly and making sure everyone has a good time. I’ll take that any day over a summer NASCAR race in the Bible Belt. What’s so great about rednecks, crappy beer, hotdogs and burning fossil fuels anyways? All the action goes down soon (August 14 + 15) so now’s the time to get your plans in order for an awesome weekend.

No matter how confident you are, sometimes you just need a little bit of reassurance. Rebecca of Rar Rar Press totally gets this and that’s why she stood out as one my favorite vendors at Renegade Craft Fair Los Angeles. Her postcards and posters instantly made me smile and had the edgy positive vibes that separate them from the usual Hallmark pc bullshit. They make a perfect gift for you or your friends and if you ever wanted a creative way to convince someone to visit, this has got to win them over. Right?

If coloring ever induces hunger, these edible crayons by the blogger behind Luxirare are the perfect medium. Only healthy ingredients such as dried strawberries, sunflower seeds, dried peas, and more were used to create these non-toxic, colorful treats/drawing utensils. Would you nervously take a bite out of one of these or would you use them up for coloring? If these were sold in stores, would they belong to the snacks section or the arts and crafts aisle?

Ever wish that wounded soldier still tasted crisp in the morning? Enter Beer Savers. Made with flexible, dishwasher safe silicon, one caps their brew when, for whatever reason, they are prevented from finishing the overwhelming 12-22oz bottle. So do they work? I tested these out myself, and yes, they keep a brewski fresh overnight, but the better question is: why are you nursing your beer? Instead, use them to fend off booze bandits at a party, identify your drink in a crowded bar, or keep homebrew bottles sterile while your pale ale is fermenting. It would be neat if you could customize the caps with funny phrases like “brb, breaking the seal” or “next round’s on you.” For less than the cost of a sixer, you can be cooler than the guy that brought his own koozie.

Five Minutes With Kumar is a web-series about my good friend Kumar Pallana. You might recognize Kumar from Wes Anderson movies such as Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums or Darjeeling Limited. Aside from sharing a dressing room with Sammy Davis Jr and walking with Gandhi, he’s also shared the screen with Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones in Steven Spielberg’s “The Terminal.” But few people know the Kumar that I’ve come to know and love. His back-story is equal parts compelling and inspiring. And after years of having this project held up, it’s with great pleasure I introduce you to a man that’s warmed the hearts of many. Each Tuesday for the next four weeks, Holiday Matinee will premiere a new episode, so sit back and enjoy Mr. Littlejeans’s gospel. In the meantime, check out the trailer and production photos.

If you’ve ever seen Sigur Ros perform live, then you know, it’s more than a rock concert, it’s one of those moments you’ll walk away speechless. You’ll subway home with friends and no one will say a word. And it’ll be perfect. So it’s with high anticipation that we announce fall dates for Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi. His new album is beyond beautiful and with one view of this tour trailer, you’ll begin to understand why every show will sellout in mere moments. I C-A-N-N-O-T W-A-I-T-!

It’s true, vintage furniture is so hot even Crate and Barrel is getting in on the trend. There’s no denying this desk is hot shit and you will look cooler than Cool Hand Luke while sitting behind it, but unless you sell your car, laptop and ditch the health insurance, you’re probably like me and can’t afford it. Oh well, maybe we should have a furniture party and make it ourselves? [via CM]

Dave and I just got back from Renegade Craft Fair in LA and it left us no doubt that the craft revolution in full effect – hell, it’d even make for a great film. Holiday Matinee was lucky enough to be invited with 250 + other talented vendors from around the country selling art, clothing, jewelry, vintage and accessories. Armed with our full line of products and favorite jams, our booth had a big-time focus on optimism and creative inspiration to get more people out there loving their work and working their love. We met so many great people we became instant friends with and told us just how much crafting changed their lives. Next stop for the Renegade Fair is July 31 + August 1 in San Francisco, but we’ll definitely be sharing a few of our favorite finds with ya in the next week. Check out all our photos here.
