I haven’t been to San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival before, but from what I can gather this year’s event in Golden Gate Park is shaping up to be something special. There are a bunch of bands I’d love to see live including The Strokes, My Morning Jacket, Freelance Whales, Phoenix and Empire of the Sun. And as if that isn’t enough to keep occupied, Outside Lands also sports wine tastings, great food from local vendors and outside art installations. Being in SF, you also know organizers will be on top of staying eco-friendly and making sure everyone has a good time. I’ll take that any day over a summer NASCAR race in the Bible Belt. What’s so great about rednecks, crappy beer, hotdogs and burning fossil fuels anyways? All the action goes down soon (August 14 + 15) so now’s the time to get your plans in order for an awesome weekend.

Dave and I just got back from Renegade Craft Fair in LA and it left us no doubt that the craft revolution in full effect – hell, it’d even make for a great film. Holiday Matinee was lucky enough to be invited with 250 + other talented vendors from around the country selling art, clothing, jewelry, vintage and accessories. Armed with our full line of products and favorite jams, our booth had a big-time focus on optimism and creative inspiration to get more people out there loving their work and working their love. We met so many great people we became instant friends with and told us just how much crafting changed their lives. Next stop for the Renegade Fair is July 31 + August 1 in San Francisco, but we’ll definitely be sharing a few of our favorite finds with ya in the next week. Check out all our photos here.

Six Items or Less is an experiment with no driving force (no, really, the people who started it have no idea what it is exactly), but it can be a memorable experience for anyone who participates.  People who are willing to take part in the experiment pick six items of clothing to wear for a month and then they share their experiences on the website. Perhaps they’ll realize that they don’t need that much clothing, but I think fashion and design-related blogs would make that difficult.

Nerds, geeks, weirdos and gorgeous women in costumes. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of Comic-Con International in San Diego. Dave and I took a walk during lunch over towards the convention center, ran into some zombies and asked Warren the Ape what he’s most excited about. Check it out below.

We may end up being a little regretful about missing some Comic-Con events in San Diego, but we decided we’re gonna get crafty and be a part of Renegade Craft Fair in Los Angeles this weekend. If you haven’t been, it’s a super-selective flea market of over 250 Etsy-style vendors with the added bonus of really being able to see what you’re buying. It’s completely FREE to attend and we’ll be selling all the goods in our store plus several new products that have yet to hit the streets. Come kick it with us at booth #120 – we’ll be there both days from 11AM-7PM.

Even though a storm struck just prior, Day 3 had better weather with a mix of sun and clouds. Festival goers were extremely friendly, shared everything and I ran into Ice Cream Man. Someone even bought me a beer for alerting them to their dropped drink tickets. It’s just what happens when you have a stacked lineup and everyone is enjoying themselves. My bill for the day had a distinct summer vibe to it with Best Coast, Washed Out, Local Natives, Here We Go Magic, Neon Indian and Sleigh Bells. All were fun, and Sleigh Bells really knows how to rock crowds, but Neon Indian really did it for me. They straight killed it with great energy, amazing sound and took my vote for favorite act of Pitchfork 2010.

Blazing summer heat greeted music lovers at Day 2 of Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago where a spot in the shade was a prized possession. I really don’t think you could have worn too little, but I’m not complaining since that’s part of what summer music festivals are all about. My favorite acts of the day were Netherfriends, Real Estate, Delorean, and Bear In Heaven – check them out if you haven’t seen them yet. Now it’s on to Day 3, where I may literally park myself at the Balance (B) stage. I’ll be sweating it out with Best Coast, Washed Out, Neon Indian and Sleigh Bells.

It’s not like we’ve been keeping it a secret or anything, but we really hope we’ll be seeing your smiling faces this evening for our creative shopping event over at Station Tavern. We’ll be joined by Threadless, Sezio, Loulou Bijoux, Yeller and Josh Boston to set up pop-up stores and celebrate some good times over good food and beers. Once we’re through with that, we’ll mosey on down the block to Whistle Stop Bar for music by Bob Nanna, Greg Gibson and Sleepwalking DJs. Bring all your friends (admission is free) ’cause it’s going to be rad.

One Way or Another is an art show curated by Society6 and Club Mumble to support Contributor, a cause with one simple goal: providing skateboards! Artists and creative collectives around the world were gathered to create original artwork on blank skateboard decks, which will be sold on the cause’s online store. All proceeds will go directly to giving skateboards to impoverished kids in Canada. What I like about this cause is that it gives kids some form of fun that takes place outside of the house and away from the internet, television, and video games (not that there’s anything wrong with these). It’s just nice to see kids get out of their rooms more often.

We are fired up for our next event and really hoping you’ll be there. We’re taking over Station Tavern for a creative shopping event to open pop-up shops galore filled with art, t-shirts, jewelry, crafts, giveaways and more. It’ll be an all-star affair led by Threadless, Sezio, LouLou Bijoux, Yeller, Josh Boston and yours truly with musical performances by Greg Gibson, Bob Nanna and Sleepwalking DJs. Cancel all your plans and come party with us. I promise it’ll be more fun.
