Five Minutes With Kumar is a web-series about my good friend Kumar Pallana. You might recognize Kumar from Wes Anderson movies such as Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums or Darjeeling Limited. Aside from sharing a dressing room with Sammy Davis Jr and walking with Gandhi, he’s also shared the screen with Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones in Steven Spielberg’s “The Terminal.” But few people know the Kumar that I’ve come to know and love. His back-story is equal parts compelling and inspiring. And after years of having this project held up, it’s with great pleasure I introduce you to a man that’s warmed the hearts of many. Each Tuesday for the next four weeks, Holiday Matinee will premiere a new episode, so sit back and enjoy Mr. Littlejeans’s gospel. In the meantime, check out the trailer and production photos.

Scott Belsky is a busy man. He’s the founder of Behance, co-founder of 99% Conference, recently named to Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business, author of the best-selling book “Making Ideas Happen” and on a mission to organize the creative world. Hot damn, our kinda guy! We hit Scott with our new Freelancer Notepad and asked him for a snapshot. We’re big fans of his Action Method so it’s an honor to have Scott be apart of our pocket notebook army.

To say we’re enormous fans of San Diego artist Jocelyn Duke is an understatement. When we teamed up with Furni to release the Freelancer Notepads we knew we had to let Jocelyn have her way with one. And have her way she did. Check out the images below but for all the glory, we’ll be displaying the entire notepad at our pop-up shop next Wednesday. Plus, we’ll soon be debuting a super new product that we collaborated with Jocelyn on. It drops at Renegade Craft Fair so come up to LA and get in on the action. It’s hot. (Click any of the images below to see more collaborations in our Freelancer series).

We’ve teamed up with our good buddies at Furni to give you a place to jot down all your creative inspiration and brilliant ideas. The Freelancer Notepads feature our motto (“Love Your Work, Work Your Love”) on the cover, printed in soy ink and on 100% unlined recycled paper. They come in sets of 3 and hand-wrapped with textured paper sleeves. Available here. And check out our Flickr Gallery to see some awesome people using these bad boys.

We’re psyched for you to hear this mix because it’s probably our most diverse yet. April’s gonna hit you with international and local flavor, an indie/hip-hop mash, vintage Holiday Matinee and more. Rock on and share with your buddies if you’re feelin’ us. Because friends don’t let friends listen to Top 40.

A month ago, Ford Motor Company gave my buddy Zack Nielsen (of Sezio) and I the below Ford Fiesta, a gas card, a fully loaded Macbook Pro and a Canon SLR. The only catch was we have to spend Ford’s money on a variety of creative missions all over San Diego, and include all of you in the process.

Our first task was to create a mural, highlighting San Diego’s neighborhoods and 10 of our favorite spots around town. We teamed up with Josh Boston to create this piece, which was then installed on the corner of Redwood & 30th, between South & North Park.

At the core of Holiday Matinee’s business philosophy is supporting local, independent entrepreneurs. So when Ford Motor Company asked Sezio and us to design a giant mural highlighting 10 local hotspots in San Diego, we jumped on the opportunity. We recruited our pal Josh Boston to help carry out our vision and the mural is now up - located on the corner of 30th and Redwood in North Park / South Park.

The debut of two new Artist Series t-shirts is coming up! This time, the shirts include designs by San Diego’s very own High Tech High: Media Arts students. These shirts are very special because 100% of all proceeds received from sales will be donated back to the school. It feels great making a contribution to a local, non-profit school that’s all about educating the arts and creativity. If you want to get a sneak peek, we’re not going to reveal them here just yet. Instead come hang out with us and the students for the official launch party + art show.
