I haven’t been to San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival before, but from what I can gather this year’s event in Golden Gate Park is shaping up to be something special. There are a bunch of bands I’d love to see live including The Strokes, My Morning Jacket, Freelance Whales, Phoenix and Empire of the Sun. And as if that isn’t enough to keep occupied, Outside Lands also sports wine tastings, great food from local vendors and outside art installations. Being in SF, you also know organizers will be on top of staying eco-friendly and making sure everyone has a good time. I’ll take that any day over a summer NASCAR race in the Bible Belt. What’s so great about rednecks, crappy beer, hotdogs and burning fossil fuels anyways? All the action goes down soon (August 14 + 15) so now’s the time to get your plans in order for an awesome weekend.

If you’ve ever seen Sigur Ros perform live, then you know, it’s more than a rock concert, it’s one of those moments you’ll walk away speechless. You’ll subway home with friends and no one will say a word. And it’ll be perfect. So it’s with high anticipation that we announce fall dates for Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi. His new album is beyond beautiful and with one view of this tour trailer, you’ll begin to understand why every show will sellout in mere moments. I C-A-N-N-O-T W-A-I-T-!

Even though a storm struck just prior, Day 3 had better weather with a mix of sun and clouds. Festival goers were extremely friendly, shared everything and I ran into Ice Cream Man. Someone even bought me a beer for alerting them to their dropped drink tickets. It’s just what happens when you have a stacked lineup and everyone is enjoying themselves. My bill for the day had a distinct summer vibe to it with Best Coast, Washed Out, Local Natives, Here We Go Magic, Neon Indian and Sleigh Bells. All were fun, and Sleigh Bells really knows how to rock crowds, but Neon Indian really did it for me. They straight killed it with great energy, amazing sound and took my vote for favorite act of Pitchfork 2010.

Blazing summer heat greeted music lovers at Day 2 of Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago where a spot in the shade was a prized possession. I really don’t think you could have worn too little, but I’m not complaining since that’s part of what summer music festivals are all about. My favorite acts of the day were Netherfriends, Real Estate, Delorean, and Bear In Heaven – check them out if you haven’t seen them yet. Now it’s on to Day 3, where I may literally park myself at the Balance (B) stage. I’ll be sweating it out with Best Coast, Washed Out, Neon Indian and Sleigh Bells.

It’s been out for a while now but with summer in full swing, Little Joy’s video for “Next Time Around” has me itching for vacation. Shot on Super 8 film in Rio de Janeiro, this vintage gem couldn’t be any more perfect.

Two years after the collaboration between Julian Casablancas, Santogold and Pharrell, Converse has once again shown the world who is running the show. This time around it’s Kid Cudi, Best Coast and Vampire Weekend – armed with a free MP3 and mini-docs showcasing each artist’s creative input and inspiration. Such a stellar campaign, I hope they don’t take another two years to keep this series going.

We’re still waiting for summer’s late start in San Diego, but here’s to hoping we can turn up the heat with some summer jams. On this month’s mix? Wavves, Best Coast, Here We Go Magic, Local Natives and more. Let’s go!

If you’re feelin’ the chillwave jams of Washed Out, Golden Ages or Delorean, you’re definitely gonna love Com Truise. Light one up, put the headphones on, sprawl out on your living room carpet and soak this one in. Blissssss.

It’s easy to sense the sarcasm in Admiral Radley’s new video I Heart California as it explores the love/hate relationship with the state, and while I can’t completely agree, I think the imagery from yesteryear and the karaoke style lyrics are pretty rad. There’s unfortunate truths to anywhere you’ll live, but for me there’s also a lot to love about this state. It’s where things happen and definitely a place for the doers, movers and shakers.
