If clothing could play music then Bridge and Burn would be the soundtrack to Holiday Matinee. Their clothes are so…well, us. And I’m sorry but this jacket is a must have, even if the model isn’t smiling, which is perplexing cuz I’d sure as hell be beaming. Check out Bridge + Burn’s full collection of mens and womens threads here. It rules. Just like you.

There’s no denying Zappos gets customer service and this new ad is proof they also have a pretty good sense of humor. However, there’s one missing piece of the puzzle that I was always surprised they neglected and that’s a really good web design. And this is super bizarre to me because this company brings it 110% in every other facet of their business (product, service, offering, distribution, social media, respect of employees, having fun). Yet, their website is so eh a la 1998 it totally surprises me they won’t complete the puzzle and have a beautiful, clean looking website. If you work at Zappos and you’re reading this, I’ve redesigned your site for you. Seriously, it’s badass just like this you and this ad.

With undergarments catapulting the stage, identical twin sisters Tegan and Sara, traditionally known for playing small bars and clubs, turned to the sizable Copley Symphony Hall for an epic San Diego performance. They’re on the road promoting their sixth full-length album, Sainthood, and belted out new tracks like “On Directing” and “Alligator.” While Tegan and Sara’s memories of San Diego include sleeping in a van in the Taco Bell parking lot, it’s safe to assume they’ve upgraded to decent digs. But the Quin twins made sure to let the audience know they aren’t taking their success for granted. Unless, of course, you happen to catch them off the road, relaxing on their “pony farm, draped in diamonds.” Without a doubt, my favorite jam of the night was their acoustic version of “Feel It in My Bones,” which took on a completely different tone without Tiësto. You best not miss this duo at a venue near you this spring.

My music reviews run the risk of being labeled amateur, but who’s really looking for the analytical take anyways? Wouldn’t you rather hear how an album makes someone feel? Me too – so I’ll tell ya. The Morning Benders’ Big Echo is catchy, dreamy indie pop that leaves me swaying side-to-side and singing along. And sometimes that’s all I need, although it doesn’t hurt that the guys from Berkeley brought in Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor on production. Choice tracks for me include “Excuses”, “Cold War” and “All Day Day Light”, a song that has me yearning for summer. Big Echo is out today on Rough Trade Records and here’s a ditty from it that may leave you wanting more.

The METI School designed by Anna Heringer and Eike Roswag is a building project in Rudrapur, Bangladesh that does more than just teach kids. It shows the people who live in that area the goodness of using the resources they already have in rural building development. By showing the benefits of good design (which you know we like a lot) and planning, the quality of life could be improved for the people in rural areas and jobs can be created. Now everyone is happy and there can be rainbows, sparkles, and unicorns all around. (via ArchDaily)

I’m super pumped to have Angels & Airwaves guitarist David Kennedy stop by Legit Radio this Wed for our weekly show, Keep It Like A Secret. There’s lots to talk about as the San Diego native has bigtime roots in hardcore/punk rock music, designs and fabricates furniture and best of all, has a dog named Zissou. We’ll be playing tracks off AVA’s new record, Love, which you can download free of charge here. Let us know if you have any questions but better yet, join the discussion live as David will be interacting with listeners who log in to the chat room. Mark your calendars – Keep It Like A Secret – this Wednesday 11am-12PM PST on Legit Radio!

Free Adventures is an on-the-road-and-you-wish-you-were-apart-of-it documentary that will show what goes on during a trip with no cash to spend on fuel, food and a place to stay. These guys plan on reusing the waste they produce and trading creativity (yay!) and community service for the basic essentials. To donate some money for the motor coach (fueled by vegetable oil) they’ll be using for the trip, you can go to this page and donate at least $10 or even more if you feel like it.

I stumbled upon these incredible photos that detail what goes on behind closed doors in the chinese toy factories that pump out 70% of the world’s toys, and thought they deserved sharing with the world. There’s something fairly eerie about seeing a woman putting together a pile of plastic baby dolls. [via Mazm]

It’s true, I’m pretty much obsessed with Hansen’s Ginger Ale but if that’s not an option, Diet Coke has a lock on my second choice. And reinforcing that notion are these new, limited edition cans drawn by comic artist Tom Gauld. They’re designed to raise awareness of The Heart Truth, the women’s heart health program. And I gotta say, seeing a huge, corporate brand utilize design for social good makes me happy. I hope we can see more of this roll out into Coke’s other products.

Now I’m a sucker for anything that has a Millennium Falcon in it, but this manipulation photography by Fred Perrot is really quite exceptional. I can’t imagine how in the world he does it, but it’s incredibly clever to say the least. [via Looks Like Good Design]
